Cashmere Quality Explained

What You Need to Know About Grades A, B, and C

Cashmere is one of the most valuable natural fibers available. Its quality can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the region where it is sourced, the season, and even the age, size, and type of the cashmere goat. The grading of cashmere helps determine its quality, with grades ranging from A to C. Grade A represents the highest quality, while Grade C is the most economical.

Grade A: The Finest Cashmere

Grade A cashmere is the pinnacle of quality. The fibers are both the longest and finest, with a diameter as low as 14-15.5 microns and a length of 34-36mm. This high-grade cashmere is known for its exceptional softness, lightweight feel, and ability to retain its shape over time. Investing in Grade A cashmere ensures a product that is not only luxurious but also durable and long-lasting.

Grade B: High-Quality, Yet More Affordable

While still considered high-grade, Grade B cashmere is slightly thicker and less soft than Grade A. The fibers typically have a diameter of around 19 microns. Although not as luxurious as Grade A, Grade B cashmere still offers good durability and value, making it an excellent option for those seeking quality cashmere at a more accessible price point.

Grade C: Economical and Functional

Grade C cashmere is the most affordable option, with much thicker fibers and a diameter of around 30 microns. This grade is significantly less soft than Grades A and B. Still, it provides a cost-effective solution for those prioritizing budget over luxury. While it may not offer the same level of comfort and durability, Grade C cashmere is still a functional choice for certain uses.
